Designing an Actionable Strategy to Strengthen a Regional Chamber’s Impact

Introduction

A regional chamber of commerce serving more than one million people across an eight-county area sought to sharpen its vision and create a strategy that was not only inspirational, but also actionable and measurable.

The Story

Leaders recognized that the Chamber had become “a mile wide and an inch deep,” spreading resources too thin across many initiatives. With a new CEO in place, the organization aimed to focus on areas where it could create real impact and demonstrate measurable progress.

The Challenge

The Chamber needed a clear strategic plan that defined its priorities, clarified its role among regional partners, and provided tools for accountability and execution.

The Choice

Bâton Global (B|G) partnered with the Chamber to engagestakeholders through interviews, focus groups, and board discussions. Using its OFAA framework (Own, Facilitate, Advocate, Abstain), B|G helped clarify which initiatives the Chamber should lead, where to partner, and what to step away from. Facilitated workshops, then assessed organizational capabilities and systems needed to execute effectively, and several key tools were created to bring the plan to life, including a Strategy-on-a-Page, initiative charters, departmental business plans, and team dynamics workshops. With these in place, the Chamber now has a clearly defined strategic plan that connects vision to measurable outcomes.
